A beautiful piece of writing...thank you...we need to get more comfortably uncomfortable about this most inevitable part of 'life'/living/existence.

Thanks so much Amanda. Yes, I think we do. I'm certainly not comfortable with it yet, though I try. And I often think of that thing that people so often say - that in the past, bodies were laid out in the family parlour/kitchen etc ... which brought home the sense of familiarity with death we don't have.

Sorry to read about your cousin, Stephanie. You've written really movingly about the funerals you've attended. The flickering candle. I was thinking of the places we keep returning to for "the big stuff": hospitals, churches and crematoriums. Punctuation marks in our lives.
